Large snowflakes provided a beautiful scene on Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church in Walnut Ridge. A round of sleet and freezing rain, followed by several inches of snow, coated Lawrence County Sunday. Another round of sleet and freezing rain hit the county on Tuesday.

Heavy ice, snowfall
impacts Lawrence Co.
Lawrence County experienced heavy ice and snowfall Sunday causing schools and several businesses to shut down Monday and Tuesday. Ice and slush made walkways and roads treacherous, and multiple vehicle accidents were reported.
Temperatures dropped throughout the day Sunday with freezing rain and sleet falling in the morning hours and several inches of snow falling in the afternoon. Reports from weather.com show as much as six inches of snowfall in the Walnut Ridge area.
Monday, Lawrence County Deputies, Ravenden Police and the Imboden Fire Department had to temporarily close down Highway 63 between Cedar Glade Camp at Imboden and Lawrence 106 due to slick conditions and several cars off in ditches. Dail's Wrecker Service was at the scene, and the road was reopened later in the day.
The Lawrence County Tournament had to be rescheduled due to the inclement weather.
Additional sleet fell on Tuesday morning changing to freezing rain in the afternoon causing continued hazardous conditions.
