BUILDINGS DEMOLISHED AT PORTIA - Goolsby General Contractors, Inc. out of Blytheville works to demolish a building off of Highway 63 at Portia. Buildings along the north side of the highway are being removed in preparation for a 1.5-mile stretch through Portia and continuing to Black Rock to be widened to five lanes.

Heavy ice, snowfall impacts LawCo.

Lawrence County experienced heavy ice and snowfall Sunday causing schools and several businesses to shut down Monday and Tuesday. Ice and slush made walkways and roads treacherous, and multiple vehicle accidents were reported.

NEARIFA allocates
funds for prospect

The Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facilities Authority (NEARIFA) has joined together with the city of Pocahontas, Randolph County and Clay County in allocating money to help raise $500,000 needed in order to meet a Delta Regional Authority (DRA) grant of $225,000 that will be used to help procure a production facility for Randolph County.

Under the leadership of Lawrence County Chamber Board Chair Fran Cavenaugh, a new committee has been formed to address what she feels is a crucial issue for the county.

New crop is harvested in LawCo.

In fields around Northeast Arkansas, including one in Egypt in Lawrence County, a crop new to this area is being harvested. The crop is miscanthus, which is being grown as an alternate and renewable source of bio-fuel.
