Farrah Matthews has announced her candidacy for reelection as Lawrence County Assessor.
Matthews worked as an appraiser in the assessor's office for five years prior to being elected as county assessor in 2000 and has earned the highest national designation (CAE) as an ad valorem tax appraiser.
"I have proudly served as your assessor for the past 13 years," said Matthews. "I have undertaken the duties of my office in an honest and professional manner and wish to continue serving as your assessor."
Matthews states that if elected she will maintain an "open door" policy.
"The residents of Lawrence County should continue to feel free to contact me with any questions regarding homestead credit benefits or real estate and personal property assessment."
A graduate of Arkansas State University, Matthews is a member of the Arkansas Assessor's Association and the International Association of Assessing Officers. Currently, she serves on the board of the Arkansas Assessor's Association, representing District Two, which includes 19 counties in Northeast Arkansas.
She also serves as an IAAO National Representative for the Arkansas chapter of the International Association of Assessing Officers, and serves on the professional designation subcommittee with the International Association of Assessing Officers.
Matthews resides in Walnut Ridge and has one daughter, Madison Matthews Young and husband, Tim, of Bragg City, Mo., and a granddaughter, Tatum Young. She is engaged to Greg Bailey and they plan to marry in May.
