LawCo. Basketball roundup
High school basketball action involving Lawrence County teams during the past week included:
WR - S-H
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats defeated Sloan-Hendrix 58-41 in senior girls basketball at Imboden.
The Lady Cats led 15-8 at the end of the first quarter, 28-22 at halftime and 41-31 after three quarters.
Allyson McQuay led Walnut Ridge with 19 points. Anna Bland scored 12 points, and Tiye Flowers added 10.
Walnut Ridge improved to 3-2 in 2A-2 Conference play and 5-3 overall.
WR - WCC
The Walnut Ridge senior girls blasted White County Central 60-32 at Sharum Gymnasium.
The Lady Cats led 16-6 at the end of the first quarter, 29-13 at halftime and 41-27 after three quarters.
Bland scored 21 points, while McQuay chipped in 14 for Walnut Ridge.
The Maynard Tigers raced out to a 31-2 first-quarter lead en route to an 81-44 victory over the Black Rock Zebras in senior boys action at Black Rock. The Tigers led 54-18 at halftime and 69-40 after three periods.
Hoxie's senior boys fell to 0-3 with a 51-37 loss to Pocahontas.
Noah Adamson and Alex Carpenter each had nine points for the Mustangs.
The Pocahontas junior boys defeated Hoxie 46-17.
Hoxie - Corning
Corning defeated Hoxie 56-23 in 3A-3 senior girls action at Corning. Corning also won a junior girls contest 50-31.
1A-3 East Conference rivals Bay and Black Rock met on the court at Black Rock. The visitors held a slim 26-23 lead at intermission before pulling away in the second half for a 74-50 victory.
Caleb McKenzie led the Zebras with 14 point. Derrek Nunally tallied 11 points, and Ryan Roberts contributed seven. Jerry Martin scored six points, and Elijah Monday added five.
Bay won a junior boys game 57-36.
Clayton Augustine led the junior Zebras with 12 points. Isaac Mondy recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Tanner Byrd had five points. Kyle Jones and Josh Bass each scored four points, and Christian Woodard added a free throw.
In senior girls action, Bay jumped out to an early 20-5 lead and went on to defeat the Lady Zebras 78-22.
The Bay junior girls defeated Black Rock 58-12.
