The Walnut Ridge High School Student Council hosted the 2013 Winter Ball on Saturday night, Dec. 14, in Van Ellis Cafetorium. The theme was "A Cold Winter's Night" and decorations were blue and silver and featured white lights and snow-white trees.

Forty-three couples participated in the receiving line and grand march; however, a total of approximately 120 students attended the event, said Lindy Baker, student council faculty advisor.

Haley Osburn and Luke Harper were named queen and king of the ball. Osburn is the daughter of Penny and Clay Sloan and Jason Osburn, and Harper is the son of Chris and Sarah Harper.

First runners-up were Chloe James, daughter of David and Darlene James of Pocahontas, and Chase Baker, son of Billy and Lindy Baker.

Second runners-up were Cirstin Lee, daughter of Frank and Teresa Lee, and Will Weir, son of Allen and Martha Weir.

Third runners-up were Johnna Rogers, daughter of J.R. and Michelle Rogers, and Dylan Smith, son of Denny and Mary Smith

"I would like to say thank you to everyone involved for making this such a special event," Baker said. "It took a lot of help from our parents this year due to the snow and ice. Without their help this event wouldn't have been possible."

"Also, thank you to all of Student Council; we had more students show up to work and cleanup than in year's past. I also thank the administration for allowing us to put on such an event," she added.

Last year's Winter Ball queen, Caroline Kelley, and her escort, Baron Estes, led the grand march. They were followed by Stephann Petty, student advisor for the Winter Ball, and her escort, Drake Smith; and Hannah Massey, student council president, and her escort, Doug Sosbe.
