Ice storm makes
travel treacherous

While Lawrence County dodged a major bullet on power outages during the weekend's ice storm, road conditions quickly deteriorated and remained dangerous for days after the storm had passed.

Freezing rain started in Lawrence County Thursday night and changed over to sleet, which continued Friday, followed by a light layer of snow Friday afternoon.

While power lines, trees and other items in the air received a light coating, at the ground level a layer of ice similar to a skating rink formed on just about every exposed surface.

Weather leads to numerous cancellations

Old Man Winter delivered a mighty blow to event planners in Lawrence County as what is generally the busiest weekend of the holiday season, quickly became void of plans due to freezing rain and sleet that moved into the area on Thursday night.

NEARIFA hopeful for future success

Scott Baltz, state representative District 61, attended the Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Facilities Authority meeting on Dec. 5 in Pocahontas.

Airport commissioners pass 2014 budget

Walnut Ridge Regional Airport commissioners passed a budget for 2014 at their regular meeting on Monday. Commission Chairman Dan Coker said the $415,000 budget is much less than budgets in previous years.
