Thomison to seek
office of county judge

John Thomison of Smithville has announced his intention to be a candidate for Lawrence County Judge in the 2014 Democratic Primary.

Thomison attended Williams Baptist College (then Southern Baptist) from 1975-77 and played basketball there on scholarship. He met his wife, Rita Bilbrey Thomison, while there, and they have been married for the past 36 years.

Both he and Rita went on to obtain teaching degrees at Arkansas State University, where he graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Education in social studies. Besides two brief stints with the Arkansas Highway Department, he has been a teacher. He and Rita have also been lifelong livestock producers.

He is in his 33rd year at Sloan-Hendrix Public Schools, where he teaches social studies and has also taught history and physical education.

The Thomisons have two children, Lindsay Penn, who is married to Chris Penn, and John Hollis Thomison III.
