Hoxie reviews 2014 budget
Mayor Lanny Tinker was unable to attend the Nov. 12 Hoxie City Council meeting due to recent surgery. City Clerk Katie Smith is serving as interim mayor in his absence, and Tinker is working from home as much as he can.
Tinker's "Mayor's Report" stated that through efforts made citywide the time taken to complete fall cleanup was reduced by two weeks, saving more than $4,000. He also reported the city auction held on Nov. 2 raised more than $15,000, most of which will go into the city's general fund.
The 2014 budget review is underway. There will be an increase of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Land Fill fees by $1 per yard effective Jan. 1. Preliminary figures suggest this will lead to a $0.40 per household bill increase.
Water rates are also estimated to increase by about $3.20 per 4,000-gallon monthly use due to adjustments made in the loan agreement entered into by the city of Hoxie with the FDA. More information can be found in the "November Mayor's Report."
The Hoxie Water/Sewer Department has hired Daniel Hackworth as its new director. Hackworth has 13 years of field and supervisor experience.
Also at the meeting, Assistant Fire Chief Will Tate made condemnation requests for properties located at 200 Northeast Jackson and 2103 Southeast Third. The council agreed to allow Tate to proceed.
