Cats beat Augusta, 58-12
Cole Hicks ran for 226 yards and five touchdowns as Walnut Ridge overwhelmed the Augusta Red Devils 58-12 on Friday night at Augusta. The win secured a berth in the state playoffs for the Bobcats.
Augusta returned the opening kickoff 82 yards to take an early 6-0 lead.
Hicks scored his first touchdown on a 12-yard run later in the first quarter. He then added the two-point conversion to give Walnut Ridge an 8-6 lead at the end of the first period.
Walnut Ridge pulled away in the second quarter, as Hicks ran for three more touchdowns. He began the period with a 68-yard dash, and followed with runs of 13 and six yards. Martin Crisler added a pair of two-point conversions, as Walnut Ridge exploded to a 30-12 halftime advantage.
Quarterback Tyler Andrews scored on a three-yard run, and Crisler added another conversion, extending the lead to 38-12 in the third quarter.
The Bobcats continued to pile on the points in the fourth quarter. Crisler ran for a touchdown, and Andrews passed to Shelby Wake for the conversion to make the score 46-12 early in the period.
Hicks scored his fifth touchdown on a 16-yard run, and Luke Harper added a 35-yard touchdown to complete the scoring.
Walnut Ridge improved to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in 2A-3 Conference play. The Bobcats will host Cedar Ridge for senior night on Thursday. The seniors will be introduced at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff at 7.
