WR Council approves rezoning ordinanceThe Walnut Ridge City Council approved a rezoning ordinance, passed a resolution to authorize the fire department to apply for a GIF Grant and renewed the Firemen's Pension Fund Annual Millage ordinance at their meeting on Oct. 8. They also heard an update on the city's 2008 helicopter/airplane exchange.
Council elects new aldermanAlderman Adam Pratt submitted his resignation to the Hoxie City Council after moving out of his ward. The council went into an executive session during its Oct. 8 meeting to discuss candidates to finish Pratt's term.
Committee to look at budget TuesdayThe Lawrence County Quorum Count is looking to start budgeting for the 2014 year and any end-of-year salary adjustments next week. County Clerk Tina Stowers said that two budget reports have not been turned in yet but she will be working to get those in as soon as possible.
WR students learn ways to spread
Walnut Ridge High School and Middle School participated in Rachel's Challenge Tuesday at the Walnut Ridge Community Center. Students learned about ways to handle bullying situations as well as things they can do to help others and themselves if they feel isolated.
