Lady Cats have good week
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats enjoyed a successful week on the volleyball court last week.
The senior Lady Cats won two-of-three matches in regular season play and capped the week by winning the Scarlet Division at the Ron Carmack Playday on Saturday. Their season record stands at 9-5 overall and 2-4 in 3A-Northeast Conference play.
The junior high team dropped a match to Southside early in the week, but bounced back to record victories over conference opponents Piggott and Cedar Ridge. The junior Lady Bobcats remain undefeated in the conference at 6-0 and are 10-2 overall.
Walnut Ridge defeated Cedar Ridge in three sets on Thursday by scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-15.
Sabrina Knight had 29 assists, 10 digs, one kill and a service ace. Anna Bland had six kills, nine digs and two aces. Brooke Midgett finished with five kills and an assist. Sunnie Cunningham was 14-of-16 serving, with four aces, and had two kills, three assists and six digs.
Caroline Kelley had 18 kills and 12 digs. Hannah Massey was 13-of-13 serving, with one ace, and had 21 digs. Alyssa Leatherman was 14-of-15 serving, with three aces, and had 13 digs and five kills.
The Walnut Ridge senior B team defeated Cedar Ridge 25-12.
Walnut Ridge's junior high team dominated Cedar Ridge, winning its two sets 25-5, 25-8.
Lane Robertson was 19-of-20 serving, with 13 aces, and had five kills, five assists and three digs. Laurel Gaither had a dig, an assist and one service ace. Olivia Cox had two kills. Cirstin Lee had five digs, two aces and an assist. Brianna Nunley finished with three digs, two kills, two assists and two aces. Baylee Burris had two kills, three digs and an assist. Baylee Haskins had two assists, an ace and a dig. Malorie Moore had two aces, two digs and a kill.
The junior high B team defeated the Lady Timberwolves 25-5.
The Walnut Ridge senior high team lost to Piggott in four sets on Sept. 17 at Piggott.
The Lady Bobcats won the first set 25-23, but dropped the next three by scores of 18-25, 20-25 and 22-25.
Knight was 10-of-11 serving, with an ace, and had 23 assists and 17 digs. Bland was 10-of-10 serving and had 26 digs and nine kills. Midgett had two digs and a kill. Cunningham had five digs, four kills and two assists.
Kelley was 15-of-15 from the service line, with two aces, and had 18 kills, 25 digs and two assists. Pyle was 14-of-15 serving, with four aces, and had three kills, one assist and three digs. Massey finished with 29 digs, one ace and an assist. Leatherman was 19-of-20 serving, with three aces, and had three digs.
The junior Lady Cats won a tough three-set match against the Lady Mohawks, 25-21, 17-25, 25-12.
Lee was 17-of-18 from the service line, with three aces, and had 15 digs and two kills. Robertson had 10 assists, 13 digs, one ace and a kill. Nunley was 14-of-15 serving, with three aces, and had five kills and 13 digs. Burris was 11-of-11 serving, with an ace, and had eight kills and 10 digs. Haskins had two digs, two asssists, one kill and an ace. Moore had 10 digs and served two aces. Anna Wilcoxson had three digs, and Gaither added one dig.
The Walnut Ridge junior B team edged Piggott 25-23.
The senior Lady Bobcats needed four sets to down the Southside Lady Southerners 25-16, 25-11, 24-26, 25-19 on Sept. 16 at Sharum Gymnasium.
Bland was 26-of-26 serving, with four aces, and had eight kills and 16 digs. Pyle was 18-of-21 serving, with three aces, and had nine kills, and five digs. Knight was 17-of-17 from the service line, with 30 assists, 14 digs and two kills. Kelley was 13-of-13 serving, with one ace, and had 13 kills, 19 digs and an assist.
Massey was 10-of-10 serving, with two aces, with 27 digs and an assist. Cunningham had eight kills and four digs. Midgett finished with three kills, two digs and an assist. Stephann Petty finished with three kills and two digs, while Makayla Daniels added three digs.
Walnut Ridge won a senior B match 25-18.
The junior Lady Bobcats lost only their second match of the season to Southside, 25-18, 23-25, 8-15.
Lee was 16-of-16 serving, with an ace, and had 14 digs. Robertson was eight-of-nine from the serving line, with an ace, and had nine assists, nine digs and a kill. Nunley was 11-of-12 serving, with an ace, and three kills and eight digs. Burris had seven kills, six digs and two aces, and Wilcoxson had two digs. Moore was eight-of-10 serving, with five aces, and had eight digs, and Haskins contributed an assist.
The Southside junior B team defeated Walnut Ridge 25-18.
Walnut Ridge's junior high team competed in the Blazer Blast at Valley View on Sept. 13-14.
Walnut Ridge went 7-3 in pool play, defeating Harrisburg, Piggott and Wynne while splitting with Batesville and losing to Valley View.
The Lady Bobcats advanced to the gold bracket, where they fell to Brookland in the first round 25-17, 16-25, 4-15.
Against Brookland, Lee was 10-of-10 serving and had 10 digs, one assist and a kill. Nunley was 10-of-12 serving, with one ace, and had five kills, and 13 digs. Burris finished with eight digs, one service ace and a kill. Moore contributed 10 digs, and Wilcoxson had three digs. Haskins finished with four assists, seven digs and a kill.
Burris, Nunley and Lee were named to the All-Tournament team.
