WR falls to Westside
Westside's Matt Nowell intercepted a Walnut Ridge pass in the end zone with 10 seconds to play as the Warriors held on for a 13-6 victory over the Bobcats in senior high football action Friday night at Westside.
Walnut Ridge's Cole Hicks scored on a five-yard run in the first quarter to give the Bobcats an early 6-0 lead.
Walnut Ridge held the lead until Westside quarterback Chase Mann hit Cody Scott with a 21-yard touchdown pass with 18 seconds to play in the first half.
Westside took the lead on Thomas Craft's eight-yard run with 21 seconds to play in the third quarter.
Walnut Ridge had an opportunity to tie, or possibly win, the game in the final seconds until Nowell's interception sealed the win for the Warriors.
Tyler Binkley led Walnut Ridge in rushing with 96 yards, while Hicks finished with 29 yards. Bobcat quarterback Tyler Andrews added six yards rushing, while completing three-of-14 pass attempts for 24 yards.
Cody Reithemeyer led the Bobcats' defense with 14 tackles, while Martin Crisler recorded 11 tackles.
Walnut Ridge fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss. After two consecutive road contests, the Bobcats return to Sexton Field Friday when they open 2A-3 Conference play against McCrory. Game time is 7 p.m.
