Lady Mustangs fall to tough
Piggott team in five sets

Hoxie's Lady Mustangs gave conference powerhouse Piggott all they could handle before falling to the Lady Mohawks in a five-set match on Thursday at Hoxie.

Piggott gained the early advantage, winning the first two sets 25-15 and 25-16. The Lady Mustangs fought back to win a tough third set, 25-21, then evened the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set. The Lady Mohawks prevailed in the decisive fifth set, 15-9, to hand Hoxie their first loss in 3A-Northeast Conference play.

For Hoxie, Courtney Sears had five kills, 17 digs and two blocks. Grace Hall had nine kills, five digs and five blocks. Maria Fry had five kills and 10 digs. Emily Hatfield had two digs. Zoe Willfond had 12 assists and two digs. Krista Vankirk finished with 16 assists, eight kills, four digs and a block. Brooke Willfond had eight digs, and Sequoia Irvin finished with six kills and two digs.

Hoxie won the junior high match in two sets, 25-18, 25-9.

Kelsey Moody had six assists and five kills, and Katelyn Jamison had three digs. Kayla Roberts added a kill and a dig. Kerry Woodson had six assists and a dig. Kenzie Orrick and

Christin Barker each had two digs, and Kaitlin Henson added three kills. Sydney Gillham had five kills, and Baylee Rash had a dig.

Highland

The Hoxie senior high team defeated Highland 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 on Sept. 9 at Hoxie.

Sears finished with 10 digs and three kills. Hall added eight kills, two digs and a block. Fry had eight digs, and Zoe Willfond had 10 assists. Chasity Kingsland had three kills. Vankirk had 10 assists, four kills, two digs and a block, and Irvin added four kills.

Hoxie also swept the junior high match 25-17, 25-13.

Jamison had a kill and a dig. Moody had three assists and five kills. Roberts had two kills. Woodson finished with five assists and six kills. Gillham had a kill and a block, and Orrick had a dig.

Blazer Blast

Hoxie's junior high volleyball team competed in the Blazer Blast, hosted by Valley View, on Friday and Saturday.

The junior Mustangs opened pool play with losses to Brookland (22-25, 15-25) and Marion (11-25, 11-25) before defeating Annie Camp 25-19, 25-22. Hoxie wrapped up pool play with a split against Crowley's Ridge Academy (23-25, 25-14) and a loss to Nettleton (7-25, 24-25) to advance to the Silver Bracket as the second seed.

In tournament play, Hoxie defeated Annie Camp 20-25, 25-9, 15-8 to advance to the semifinals, where they were defeated by Trumann 25-27, 25-18, 11-15.

For the tournament, Jamison finished with eight kills and 23 digs. Moody had 26 assists, 20 kills, 10 digs and a block. Roberts totaled 17 kills and four digs. Woodson had 27 assists, three kills and three digs, and Orrick had nine digs. Gillham and Barker had 20 and 18 digs, respectively, and Rash finished with 11 digs.
