Hoxie defeats Riverview, 28-14
Hoxie quarterback Cole Sears rushed for 203 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mustangs to a 28-14 victory over the Riverview Raiders in senior high football action Friday night at Searcy.
After a scoreless first quarter, Hoxie opened the scoring on Sears' 20-yard run at the 10-minute mark of the second period. Casey Middlecoff added the extra-point for a 7-0 Hoxie lead.
Riverview scored on a 58-yard run by Benny Watson with 6:45 to play before halftime, but failed on the conversion attempt, leaving the Mustangs in front 7-6.
Kyle Wilson capped a late Hoxie drive with a five-yard run with just 11 seconds remaining to give the Mustangs a 13-6 advantage at halftime.
The Mustangs extended their lead to 21-6 in the third quarter on Sears' 13-yard pass to Hunter Wilson with 5:41 to play in the period. Sears ran in the two-point conversion.
Riverview's Luke Hoofman connected with David Lee for a 43-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. The two-point conversion brought the Raiders to within 21-14 with 7:45 to play in the game.
The Mustangs needed just over a minute to respond, as Sears dashed 34-yards for a touchdown with 6:33 to play to dampen any hopes of a Riverview comeback. Middlecoff added the PAT for the game's final point.
Sears finished with 203 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. He also completed five-of-eight pass attempts for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Gunner Cook added 58 yards rushing on 23 attempts, while Colton Brown finished with 29 yards on six carries. Jacob Henson had 13 yards on four carries, and Wilson finished with eight yards and a touchdown on three carries.
Henson caught two passes for 23 yards. Hunter Wilson had two receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown. Kyle Wilson had one reception for six yards.
Hoxie improved to 2-0 on the season. The Mustangs host Cave City on Friday at 7 p.m.
