Lady Mustangs earn victories

The Hoxie senior high volleyball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a three-set victory over Ridgefield Christian in their 3A-Northeast Conference opener on Thursday in Jonesboro. Scores of the sets were 25-14, 25-15, 25-10.

Courtney Sears had 11 kills and three digs for the Lady Mustangs. Zoe Willfond led with 10 assists, and Krista Vankirk added nine. Maria Fry added four kills.


The Lady Mustangs dropped the first two sets against visiting Newport, 21-25 and 16-25, before rallying for victories in three consecutive sets, 25-4, 25-17, 15-12, to take the match.

For Hoxie, Sears had eight kills, eight digs and two blocks. Grace Hall finished with eight kills and two blocks. Fry had a team-high 14 digs. Emily Hatfield had 13 digs and Brooke Willfond added seven. Vankirk recorded 18 assists.

Hoxie's junior Lady Mustangs moved to 2-0 with a hard-fought victory, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20.
