Hoxie discusses closed store
The Hoxie City Council approved Mayor Lanny Tinker to oversee the creation of an equipment list for Wayne's Hometown Market grocery store at their meeting on Aug. 13.
The list is to include an inventory of all equipment purchased under the $200,000 reuse loan provided by the city to Wayne Black when he started the business. Equipment on the list will remain with the store for future businesses to use.
According to the Mayor's report, Black is working to find a tenant or leaseholder so that Hoxie will continue to have a grocery store.
Also a motion was made to contract with Ravenden Marshall Tim McComas for $200 a week to work under his water/wastewater license. McComas will continue to oversee operations until a full-time water/wastewater superintendent is hired.
Russell Cain of the Hoxie Water/Sewer Department has started training to earn his license. He has successfully completed 24 hours of training and is scheduled for more training at the end of the month.
Also at the meeting:
- citizens Ed Romine and David Watson shared their concerns with drainage issues on a closed alleyway located off Broad Street. Weeds and discarded items have caused a buildup preventing proper drainage, causing standing and stagnant water. The property owner has been informed about the concerns and the council will review code enforcement regulations to prevent this from happening again.
- Mayor Tinker announced that he had authorized the maximum legal spraying efforts to reduce the mosquito infestation in upcoming weeks. Sprayers will be operational twice a day, weather permitting, Monday through Saturday.
- the council approved the appointment of Mayor Tinker as interim committee member of the Northeast Arkansas Public Water Authority to represent Hoxie. The committee member would normally be the water/wastewater superintendent.
