Enrollment shows slight
decrease in 2013

First-day school enrollment for Lawrence County Schools showed only a slight decrease from last year's figures with 3,027 students compared to 3,068 in 2012.

WR Council discusses replacing
tractor, ongoing street repairs

Walnut Ridge councilmen discussed city streets needing repairs, replacing a tractor for the park department and received a brief update on the city's budget at their regular meeting on Aug. 13.

Hoxie discusses closed store

The Hoxie City Council approved Mayor Lanny Tinker to oversee the creation of an equipment list for Wayne's Hometown Market grocery store at their meeting on Aug. 13.

Tax to go into effect on Jan. 1

The new half-cent sales tax for Lawrence Memorial Hospital, which was passed by Lawrence County voters on Aug. 13, will go into effect on Jan. 1.

Smith crowned Miss LawCo.

Allyson Smith, 19-year-old daughter of Allen and Kim Smith of Walnut Ridge, is the new Miss Lawrence County.
