Commission amends airport's
CIP to include lighting repairs
Walnut Ridge Regional Airport commissioners amended their Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and approved a Business Continuity Plan at their
regular meeting on Monday.
Commission Chairman Dan Coker told the commission that he and Commissioner Gary Kearby had met with airport engineer Stacey Morris and discussed amending the airport's CIP to include rewiring Runway 18-36 as part of the CIP for 2014.
They have been dealing with ongoing lighting issues on the runway, and voted in favor of amending the plan.
They also approved a Business Continuity Plan, a new requirement of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The plan has to be in place in order for the airport to receive future grants.
Commissioners were also informed that the West Memphis Municipal Airport is beginning a $10 million lighting project, and has offered their old lights and transformers to the Walnut Ridge Airport free of charge. The only expense to the airport will be to move the 100 lights and transformers from the Memphis airport to Walnut Ridge. The lights can be used for replacement lights as needed.
In other business:
- Airport Manager Michelle Anthony presented commissioners with a list of airport rules and regulations for day-to-day operations of the airport.
- Commissioners agreed to lease property at the airport to Jim Propst for a portable hangar.
- The commission discussed the upcoming Arkansas Airport Operators Association meeting, which will be held in Eureka Springs, Sept. 14-16.
