Findings released; Sidney Randall case closed

A sense of finality has finally reached the Lawrence County community after the Arkansas State Police released its findings regarding the death of 14-year-old Sidney Randall of Walnut Ridge.

Evidence from the autopsy report and Arkansas State Police investigation indicates that Sidney was killed by blunt force trauma to the head, and according to ASP Sgt. Scott Pillow there is no evidence to suggest that anyone other than the prime suspect in the case, her stepfather, John Cornell, was involved in what was ruled a homicide.

Voters approve sales tax

Lawrence County voters showed their support for county-owned Lawrence Memorial Hospital by passing a 10-year, one-cent sales tax during a special election on Tuesday. The one-cent is comprised of an extension of an existing half-cent tax and the addition of a half-cent tax, both of which will be in effect until 2023.

LawCo. experiencing wet weather

Rain has dominated the forecast for Lawrence County over the last two weeks as the county has experienced one of the wettest Augusts in recent history. The average August rainfall for the county is 2.9 inches, which was exceeded during the first week this year. By comparison, during the first two weeks of August in 2012 Lawrence County received three-hundredths of an inch of rain.

Commission amends airport's
CIP to include lighting repairs

Walnut Ridge Regional Airport commissioners amended their Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and approved a Business Continuity Plan at their regular meeting on Monday.

Brittany Sellers of Walnut Ridge was the overall winner in this year's Times Dispatch Summertime Photo Contest.

JPs create account for bail bonds

The Quorum Court approved an ordinance to appropriate $117,164 on deposit with the county treasurer to a separate sheriff bail fund in accordance with currents laws.
