Local players honored
Five Lawrence County high school baseball players have been named to the 2013 Best Under The Sun team by The Jonesboro Sun.
The players receiving the honor are:
Layne Ditto, pitcher, Walnut Ridge - Ditto posted an 8-2 record with a 0.52 earned run average. He recorded 63 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .160 batting average. He allowed only five walks and four earned runs on the season. He is the son of Steve and Missy Ditto.
Zach Crisler, infielder, Walnut Ridge - Crisler finished with a .465 batting average, with 10 doubles and 32 RBIs. He also had 18 stolen bases and scored 50 runs. Crisler also received All-State honors. He is the son of Darrel Crisler and Tonya Crisler.
Eric Wilcoxson, infielder, Walnut Ridge - Wilcoxson batted .457 and drove in 37 runs. His hits included 19 doubles and five home runs. He scored 54 runs and swiped 26 bases. Wilcoxson was named to the All-State team and was selected to play in the Coaches Association All-Star Game. He is the son of Bill and Pam Wilcoxson.
Hunter Flippo, outfielder, Walnut Ridge - Flippo hit .523, with 12 doubles and four home runs. He drove in 49 runs on the season. He received All-State honors and was selected to play in the Coaches Association All-Star Game. He is the son of Charles and Dana Flippo.
Seth Hart, utility, Hoxie - Hart batted .423 in 2013. He recorded a .493 on-base percentage, a .518 slugging percentage and had 17 RBIs. He earned All-State honors. He is the son of Michael and Sherry Hart.
J.D. Rainwater of Jonesboro High School, was named the Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. As a pitcher, Rainwater compiled a 6-2 record with a 2.91 earned run average and recorded 90 strikeouts. At the plate, Rainwater had a .529 batting average and a .643 on-base percentage. He also totaled 14 doubles, 16 stolen bases, 47 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He earned All-State honors and was selected to play in the Coaches Association All-Star Game. He is the son of Tom and Valerie Rainwater, formerly of Walnut Ridge.
