School filings end
with two board races
The filing period for the Sept. 17 School Election ended at noon Tuesday and resulted in races for two school board positions. One race is for the board position in the Hoxie School District, and the other is for the Sloan-Hendrix School District.
Felipe Baiza and Nathan Romine are seeking election to the Hoxie School Board. Incumbent Lonnie Smith, who has served on the board for the last 20 years, will not seek re-election.
Robert Stallings, the incumbent, will be in a race with Donna L. Bartlett for the position on the Sloan-Hendrix School Board.
The following candidates have filed for school board positions and are unopposed.
Hillcrest - Larry Brent Glenn, incumbent, Zone 2; and Roger Randolph, Zone 3. Darrell Smith is the incumbent for Zone 3 and did not seek re-election.
Lawrence County School District - Incumbent Keith Brand filed for re-election to the Walnut Ridge position, while incumbent Joe Penn filed for re-election for the Black Rock position.
No schools are thought to be asking for millage increases in this election, said County Clerk Tina Stowers.
Ballot drawing set
The Lawrence County Election Commission will hold a drawing for ballot positions for the School Election on Friday at 11 a.m. It will be held in the Lawrence County Clerk's Office in the courthouse. The public and candidates are welcome to attend.
