Gibson new BRTC board chair
Sue Gibson of Walnut Ridge was named as chair of Black River Technical College's Board of Trustees during their June meeting.
Her two-year term as chair became effective July 1 when she assumed the role held by her brother, John Jackson of Pocahontas, for the previous two years.
Gibson was first appointed to the board by Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe in 2009 to serve a seven-year term. She was elected as vice chair in 2011.
A Pocahontas native, Gibson and her husband, Danny, are owners and agents of Gibson Shelter Insurance Agency in Walnut Ridge. She is a former junior high English teacher and alumna of the University of Arkansas.
She is active in the Arkansas Chapter of P.E.O. and has served as board member of the Wings of Honor Museum, the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and First United Methodist Church, all in Walnut Ridge.
"BRTC continues to be very fortunate in its quality of board members, as symbolized by its leadership," said BRTC President Dr. Wayne Hatcher. "With Sue Gibson moving from vice chair to chair, I know BRTC will continue to be guided by individuals who are both committed and dedicated to the success of our students."
Gibson presented a plaque to Jackson for his service as chair. He will continue to serve on the board until his term expires in 2015.
