Joyce Ann Atkinson

Joyce Ann Atkinson, 66, of Walnut Ridge, died May 18, 2013, at Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab.

Born Dec. 19, 1946, in Jonesboro, she had been a quality control operator at Skil and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Haskell Farley; and her grandparents, William and Lucy Orr and Paul and Nannie Farley.

Survivors include her husband, Donald F. Atkinson, whom she married Dec. 25, 1986; a son, Donald Atkinson II and wife Jennifer, Black Rock; a daughter, Michele Atkinson, Dixon, Ill.; her mother, Louise Orr Farley, Hoxie; two sisters, Brinda Monroe, Walnut Ridge, and Shirley Story, Hoxie; five grandchildren, Matthew Clutter, Katelyn Atkinson, Elizabeth Spencer, Dylan Spencer and Madalyn Atkinson; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral was Wednesday, May 22, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge with Bro. Dale Hughart officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Donald Atkinson II, Timothy Green, Anthony Monroe, Ricky Monroe, Bub Whitaker, David Hampton, Joey Rice and Elijah Cadle.

A.L. Hubbard

A.L. Hubbard, 78, of Strawberry, died May 22, 2013, at the V.A. Hospital in Little Rock.

Born June 21, 1934, in Saffell, he was the son of Lonnie Sr. and May McLaughlin Hubbard. He was a veteran and a member of the Strawberry Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Maurine Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Smith and husband Mickel, Ash Flat, and Paula Burnes and husband David, Cabool, Mo.; a son, Jimmy Hubbard, Lynn; five grandchildren, Adrian Miesner, Andrea Harrelson, Conner Burnes, Courtney Burnes and Hamilton Hubbard; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lancaster Cemetery in Strawberry with Mickel Smith officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home of Lynn and Walnut Ridge had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Adrian Miesner, Conner Burnes, David Burnes, Jimmy Hubbard, Hamilton Hubbard and Josh Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Zac Smith, Barrett Harrelson and Terry Smith.

Don Martin

Don Martin, 77, of O'Kean, died May 22, 2013, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Born June 19, 1935, he was the son of Henry and Virland Mae Denton Martin. He lived most of his life in O'Kean and was a sheet metal construction worker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the McKinley Masonic Lodge #712 in Hammond, Ind.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Martin; a son, Clyde Donald Martin Jr. and wife Debbie, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Judy Haney and husband William, O'Kean, and Vicki Powers and husband Steve, Paragould; four sisters, Mary Ellen Downing, Kansas, Beulah Sparks, Jonesboro, Bonnie Ivy, Pocahontas, and Theida Young, Williford; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Saturday at Lawrence Memorial Park with Perry Tidwell officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Beau Haney, D.J. Shipman, Trey Martin, Blake Powers, Steven Powers and Les Stroud.

Howard L. Rogers

Howard L. Rogers, 77, of Walnut Ridge, died May 24, 2013, in Walnut Ridge.

Born Sept. 2, 1935, in Alicia, he was the son of Otis and Erma Spires Rogers. He was a lifetime resident of Lawrence County and a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Walnut Ridge.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Odell Rogers, Cleveland Rogers, Randall Rogers and Garland Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Rogers; two daughters, Shelly Crafton and husband Tony, Paragould, and Katrina Burch and husband Wayne, Walnut Ridge; a son, Aaron Henson and wife Sharon, Walnut Ridge; three sisters, Jane Todd, Jonesboro, and Meryl Smick and Joyce Thatcher, both of Alicia; two brothers, Lilburn Rogers, Hoxie, and Larry Rogers Sr., Jonesboro; six grandchildren, Amanda Atchley, Jamie Causey, Danielle Chambers, Whitney Mangrum, Connor Crafton and Courtney Crafton; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Monday at 10 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Larry Rogers Sr. and Betty Williams officiating. Burial was in Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia.

Pallbearers were Warren Williams, Michael Rogers, Richy Thatcher, Terry James, Randy Rogers and Bob Marriott. Honorary pallbearers were Todd Atchley and Alex Chambers.

Ellen Jeroline Smith

Ellen Jeroline Smith, 72, of Leachville, sister of Suzie Stroud of O'Kean, died May 22, 2013, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. Burial was Saturday in Horner Cemetery in Hornersville, Mo., under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Leachville. An online guestbook is available at

David Allen Way

David Allen Way, 31, of Lexington, Ky., formerly of Mountain Home, died May 26, 2013.

Born March 27, 1982, in Jonesboro, he was of the Church of Christ belief.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Rorex.

Survivors include four children, Deborah Way, Gauge Way and Jack Way, all of Mountain Home, and Geneva Way, Gassville; the mothers of his children, Stacy Way, Mountain Home, and Abby Utchman, Gassville; his parents, Gary and Deborah Neely Way, Mountain Home; two sisters, Mary Couch, Lebanon, Mo., and Samantha Capps, Walnut Ridge; and his grandparents, Geneva Rorex, Mountain Home, Nina Vinson, Walnut Ridge, and Darrel and Earlene Way, Little Rock.

Funeral is Friday at 1 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge with Frank Plachy officiating. Burial will be in Markham Cemetery near Egypt.

Pallbearers will be Jim Neely, Doug Scott, Allen Quattlebaum, Scot Rorex, Donnie West and Jim Elliot. Honorary pallbearer will be Terry Jones.

Patricia Lane Whitmire

Patricia Lane Whitmire, 73, of Walnut Ridge, died May, 22, 2013, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.

Born March 7, 1940, in Clover Bend, she lived in the Kansas City, Kan., area for many years before moving to Walnut Ridge 13 years ago. She worked as personnel manager for Walmart until her retirement. She was of the Baptist belief.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Della Ludwig; and a daughter, Kimberly Whitmire.

Survivors include her husband, Dizzy Whitmire; a daughter, Cheryle Mathews, Kansas City, Kan.; a son, Robert Dale Whitmire, of the home; a brother, Darrell Ludwig, Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Charlene Henry, Malibu, Calif., and Donna Johnson, Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Private services were under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
