Walnut Ridge's Eric Wilcoxon fields the ball during first-round action at the 2A-North regional baseball tournament at Tuckerman on Monday. The Bobcats edged East Poinsett County 3-2 to clinch a spot in the state tournament.

Bobcats advance
to state

The Walnut Ridge baseball team opened the 2A-North regional tournament with an eight-inning 3-2 victory over East Poinsett County on Monday at Tuckerman. The win assured the Bobcats a spot in the 2A State Tournament, which will begin Thursday in El Dorado.

Coffell retains pole vault title

For the fourth consecutive year, Hoxie's Krista Coffell is the girls 3A champion pole vaulter. Coffell added another title to her collection by also winning the triple jump event at the state meet on Thursday at Green Forest.

Screamin' Eagles fare well at state

Several Hillcrest athletes competed in the 1A State Track Meet on May 1 in Texarkana.

S-H athletes compete

Six athletes represented Sloan-Hendrix High School at the 2A State Track Meet on May 1 in Fort Smith.
