Cats drop close game to Brookland

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats stepped out of conference to host Brookland in high school baseball action on Saturday at Stewart Park. The teams battled for 10 innings before the Bearcats claimed a 6-5 victory.

Brookland led 2-1 after one inning and extended their advantage to 4-1 after four innings. Trailing 5-3, the Bobcats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the contest to extra innings.

Zach Crisler pitched the first two innings for Walnut Ridge before giving way to Ryan Vaughn. Vaughn allowed five runs on six hits, while striking out three, in five innings of work. Layne Ditto pitched the final three innings and took the loss.

At the plate, Hunter Flippo had one hit and two RBIs. Zach Crisler had two hits and scored two runs. Ditto went 4-for-5. Cole Hicks had two hits, one RBI and one run, while Payton Poole and Eric Wilcoxson each and had a hit and scored a run.

Valley View

The Bobcats went on the road to play Valley View on Friday at Jonesboro and came away with a 4-1 win over the Blazers.

Walnut Ridge scored a run in the first inning and three in the second. Valley View's only run came in the third inning.

Layne Ditto started on the mound for Walnut Ridge and allowed one hit with one strikeout in two innings of work. Baron Estes pitched the final five innings to earn the save. He allowed one run on three hits, with five strikeouts.

Offensively, Flippo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run. Lane Kennedy went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Crisler went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Rowdy Ditto also had two hits, and Range Weeks scored a run. Wilcoxson had a hit, an RBI and scored a run.

Salem

Walnut Ridge scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 17-4 rout of Salem on April 17 at Salem.

Salem closed to within 5-4 with single runs in the second and third innings, but the Bobcats put the game away with two runs in the fourth inning, six in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Weeks pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out four.

Flippo led the way at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and scoring three runs. Wilcoxson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scored four runs. Hicks was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Weeks had two hits and scored a run. Cash Lee had one hit, two RBIs and scored three runs. Crisler had one hit, three RBIs. Rowdy Ditto had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs. Payton Poole had a hit and scored two runs, and Kennedy had a hit.

White County Central

A grand slam by Poole keyed a five-run first inning, as Walnut Ridge coasted to a 14-0 win at White County Central on April 15.

The Bobcats added two runs in the second inning and seven in the fourth.

Crisler and Ryan Vaughn combined to pitch a no-hitter in the five-inning contest. Crisler had four strikeouts, while Vaughn struck out two.

Poole finished 1-for-2 with five RBIs and scored a run. Flippo went 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Wilcoxson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored twice. Lee had a hit and scored twice.

Crisler had one hit, an RBI and scored two runs. Weeks added an RBI. Layne Ditto finished with a hit and a run, and Hicks had a hit and two runs.
