Cats record three victories

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats stepped out of conference play and picked up a 5-1 victory over the Riverside Rebels in high school baseball action Friday at Lake City.

Walnut Ridge scored a run in the first inning, two in the third and two in the sixth. Riverside's only tally came in the second inning.

Layne Ditto earned the pitching win, allowing one unearned run on four hits. He registered nine strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Eric Wilcoxson led the Bobcats at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scoring two runs. Zach Crisler went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and scored a run. Hunter Flippo had a hit and an RBI. Cole Hicks and Lane Kennedy each added a hit.

White County Central

The Bobcats defeated 2A-2 conference opponent White County Central 9-4 on April 9 at Stewart Park.

Walnut Ridge got on the scoreboard first, with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Bears cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. The Bobcats added a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-2.

WCC closed to within a run, at 5-4, with two runs in the top of the fifth. Walnut Ridge answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch the lead to 7-4, then added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth to set the final score.

Flippo led the Bobcats' offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scoring two runs. Wilcoxson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs. Crisler had a hit and scored a run. Cash Lee each had a hit, scored a run and drove in two runs. Payton Poole had a hit and an RBI, and Hicks had a hit and one run.

Crisler pitched the first two innings for the Bobcats and recorded five strikeouts. Range Weeks pitched one inning, allowing two runs on one hit, and had two strikeouts. Baron Estes came on in the fourth inning and earned the victory in relief. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out eight batters.

Pangburn

Walnut Ridge cruised to a 16-0 five-inning shutout win over conference foe Pangburn on April 8 at Pangburn.

The Bobcats scored six runs in the first inning, three in the second, three in the third, and two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Poole was 2-for-3 at the plate, with three RBIs and scored three runs. Crisler had two hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Flippo had a pair of doubles and three RBIs.

Wilcoxson went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and scored three runs. Lee had one hit, two RBIs and scored two runs. Hicks added a hit and an RBI and scored two runs, and Layne Ditto had an RBI.

Ryan Vaughn pitched all five innings, allowing just one hit, while striking out nine.
