Events set at Wings
of Honor Museum
The Wings of Honor Museum will host special events on Friday and Saturday as the 71st birthday of the air field is celebrated.
The 15th annual Walnut Ridge Army Air Field Reunion will be held this weekend, as well as a fly-in event on Saturday.
There are plans for free airplane rides for children and adults on Saturday from 1-3 p.m.
In addition, items are being collected to send to Arkansas soldiers who are serving in Afghanistan. A donation box is located in the airport terminal building and suggested items include candy, cookies, chips, games, books and personal notes.
The reunion will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday at the museum. At 10 a.m., "Exploring Field's History" will be presented in the conference room, followed by self-guided tours from 11 a.m. to noon.
There will be a break from noon to 1:15 for lunch at either the Parachute Inn or one of the other local restaurants.
At 1:30 attendees can choose between a WWII Remembrances session in the museum's library or a bus tour of air field sites and downtown Walnut Ridge sites. From 3-3:45 p.m. oral history videos will be shown in the museum's library.
Friday's activities will conclude with dinner and entertainment from 6-8 p.m. in the conference room. There is a recommended donation of $10 for the meal.
On Saturday, the museum will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the first event for the day will be a safety meeting from 10-11 a.m. for pilots participating in the fly-in.
The Parachute Inn will be open from 7-9:30 a.m. to serve breakfast to the pilots who fly in, as well as to community members. A portion of each breakfast sold will be donated to the museum.
A barbecue lunch will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m. with a recommended donation of $5.
At 1:30 attendees can attend "World War II Memories" in the museum's library or take the bus tour. The event will conclude with oral history videos from 3-4 p.m. in the library, followed by a time of reminiscing from 4-6.
There will also be a silent auction during the events. It will be in the museum's library and will be open for bidding from 4-5:30 on Friday and from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
