Hillcrest teams compete at state

The Hillcrest boys and girls senior high basketball teams made the long trip to Bradley to compete in the 1A State Tournament last week.


Twenty-four hours after winning the regional tournament on their home floor at Lynn, the Hillcrest boys faced KIPP Delta in a first-round contest. The game was close in the first half, with the Screamin' Eagles leading 17-14 after the first quarter and 30-25 at the intermission.

Hillcrest began to pull away in the second half, stretching the lead to 48-35 after three quarters en route to a 64-50 win. KIPP had no answer for Colman Evans, who finished with 43 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

Hoxie boys end season at state

The Hoxie Mustangs basketball season ended with a 66-45 loss to Harding Academy in the first round of the 3A State Tournament on Feb. 26 in Searcy.
