Hillcrest girls win district title

Hillcrest's senior boys and girls basketball teams reached their respective finals in the 1A-2 North District Tournament last week at Mammoth Spring.

The Lady Screamin' Eagles defeated Viola 49-42 in girls championship game, while Hillcrest's boys fell to Viola 58-50 in the title game.

The girls final was tied 25-25 at halftime before Hillcrest took control in the second half.

Lindsey Crews led the Lady Eagles with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

In the boys title game, Viola jumped on Hillcrest in the first half and held a 33-19 lead at the half. The Longhorns were able to hold off the Screamin' Eagles in the second half to grab the win.

Colman Evans led Hillcrest with 14 points, while Zach Doyle and Jeremiah Turner each chipped in 12 points.

Both Hillcrest teams advanced to the 1A Region 2 Tournament, which begins today at Lynn. The Lady Screamin' Eagles will play Maynard in the first round today at 4 p.m. Hillcrest's boys will take the court in the opening round against Ridgefield Christian on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
