Fourth-seeded Hoxie
boys earn district title

Fourth-seeded Hoxie got 27 points from Colton Watson, as the Mustangs defeated Earle 77-62 in the boys final of the 3A-3 District Tournament Saturday night at The Hoxie Mustang Gymnasium.

Hoxie led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter, 36-30 at halftime and 55-48 after three periods.

Jacob Defries scored 20 points, and Tristan Privett added 19 for the Mustangs.

Hoxie will host the 3A Region 3 Tournament, which gets underway this afternoon. The Hoxie boys will play Valley Springs tonight at 8:30.

Semifinals

Hoxie earned its way to the finals by defeating top-seeded Manila 60-42 in semifinal action on Friday.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 22-11 lead after one quarter and stretched the advantage to 38-19 at the end of the first half. Hoxie remained in control after the break, taking a 49-28 lead into the fourth quarter.

Watson led the Mustangs with 29 points, including seven three-pointers. Privett and Defries added 13 points apiece.

Quarterfinals

Hoxie began its tournament run with a 70-60 victory over Piggott on Feb. 12. The win also secured a spot in the regional tournament for the Mustangs.

Watson led the way with 26 points. Defries scored 19 points, and Privett added 15.

Girls

Hoxie's Lady Mustangs saw their season come to an end with a 66-46 loss to Earle in girls quarterfinal action.

Earle took a 33-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs broke the game open in the second half, outscoring Hoxie 22-11 in the third quarter to open up a 55-33 advantage entering the final period.

Brandy Alls scored 21 points, and Krista Coffell added 13 for the Lady Mustangs.

First round

Alls scored 22 points to lead the Lady Mustangs to 61-35 win over Osceola in a first-round game on Feb. 11.

Hoxie led 28-13 at halftime and 46-25 after three quarters.

Coffell added 14 points for the Lady Mustangs.
