As the United States Postal Service looks for ways to continue to provide services under a severe budget crunch, many patrons are finding that their post office is being converted into a postal station.
For Walnut Ridge, those changes have led to the addition of a new supervisor position, which was filled by Scott Whitmire in October.
The Walnut Ridge Post Office now oversees operations at Walnut Ridge, Hoxie and Alicia in Lawrence County, as well as Peach Orchard, Egypt and Delaplaine.
"Walnut Ridge used to have a supervisor years ago," Whitmire said. "With the addition of offices under the Walnut Ridge office, we have enough units to create the position again."
He said Walnut Ridge expects to have additional postal stations added under their supervision in the coming year.
In addition, Walnut Ridge recently added Bridget Lamb as the new officer-in-charge. Candy Denney who is Walnut Ridge's postmaster, is currently on a detail assignment in Little Rock.
