District Court
offers amnesty
The Lawrence County District Court has announced an amnesty period for individuals who had a warrant issued for failure to appear, violation of the hot check law or failure to pay prior to Jan. 1, 2012.
Joyce Roberts, district court clerk, said it is possible to get the warrant dismissed, extra fines dropped and driving privileges reinstated for most people who report to the district court clerk's office and pay the underlying charges/tickets in full at the same time. Some may be required to make a court appearance due to possible restitution, victim's rights or if the underlying charge carries jail time or other requirements.
The clerk's office, located at 116 Northwest Third Street in Walnut Ridge is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"Amnesty will last only a few weeks and will end without warning," District Judge Jason Marshall said. "Warrants will be subject to tax refund interception procedures in the future."
