Lady Zebras earn win
The Black Rock senior girls basketball team earned their first victory of the season, 53-46, over 1A-3 East Conference opponent Ridgefield Christian on Jan. 22 at Black Rock.
After trailing 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, Black Rock rallied to take a 27-25 lead at halftime. The Lady Zebras extended the lead to 42-34 after three quarters. Clutch free-throw shooting helped the Lady Zebras hold on in the final period. For the game, Black Rock hit 14-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Erica Bass led Black Rock with a game-high 18 points.
The Black Rock junior girls defeated Ridgefield 36-6.
Ridgefield defeated Black Rock 49-24 in a senior boys contest.
The Warriors led 12-8 after one quarter, 27-15 at halftime and 39-21 after three periods.
Matthew Wilkins had seven points for Black Rock.
The Black Rock junior boys defeated Ridgefield 33-21.
The Black Rock senior boys edged Armorel 59-57 on Thursday at Armorel.
Wilkins led the Zebras with 22 points, while Caleb McKenzie and Derek Nunally each scored 14 points.
Armorel's Lady Tigers defeated Black Rock 57-22 in a senior girls game.
Armorel led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter before breaking the game open in the second quarter. The Lady Tigers outscored Black Rock 22-4 in the period to move out to a 35-11 halftime lead.
Christian Ervin scored eight points for Black Rock.
Armorel's junior girls defeated Black Rock 31-19.
