WR Airport named
Walnut Ridge Regional Airport Manager Michelle Anthony's efforts to accommodate airport when they visit or stop to buy fuel has been recognized by AVweb.
The Walnut Ridge Regional Airport was listed recently as a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) of the Week on AVweb. In order to receive this honor, an airport has to be nominated by a pilot who has been impressed by an airport and/or its staff during a stopover anywhere in the nation.
AVweb is a general aviation news website, offering blogs, pod casts, reader's photo galleries, newsletters, classified ads, events calendar and a foruma for those interested in aviation. They list top FBOs to help pilots locate reliable airports that provide good service to pilots, as well as hospitality and fuel at competitive prices.
Pilot Harry Shannon recommended the Walnut Ridge Airport following a recent stopover there, stating that airport manager Michelle Anthony went the extra mile to accommodate the airport guests.
"The fuel prices caught my attention, but the service brought me back to Walnut Ridge a second time," Shannon said on his entry form nominating the airport.
"While moving a Caravan amphib from Florida to Washington state, good fuel prices prompted a stop at Walnut Ridge. The service was great, leading to a planned stop on the return trip to Florida," said Shannon.
"As often happens, our plans lag a bit, and we found ourselves heading for Walnut Ridge near midnight. A call ahead had arranged for an open FBO," he said. "We were personally met by the airport manager, who also transported us to local lodging, picked us up the next morning and gave us an extra discount on fuel because it was our second stop."
The airport will receive an AVweb "FBO of the Week" ribbon suitable for display and will be recognized as a good place for other pilots to visit in the future.
"Michelle Anthony is doing an outstanding job as airport manager," said Dan Coker, Walnut Ridge Airport Commission chairman. "Since we established our customer service committee, the airport has actively pursued better customer relations, and we have gotten lots of positive feedback. Customer feedback is very important to us and makes a big difference in our fuel sales and revenue."
He added that visitors enjoy eating at Parachute Inn and touring the Wings of Honor Museum while they are here, which also encourages them to choose the Walnut Ridge airport for refueling and stopovers in the future.
