WINTER SNOW, ROUND TWO - This view from the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn shows the wintry scene in Lawrence County Tuesday afternoon with over two inches of snow on the ground and more falling. Schools dismissed early, and Sheriff Jody Dotson reported a number of incidents of vehicles sliding in ditches as the slick roads caught many by surprise. Heavy rains and warm temperatures over the weekend had finally melted snow piles that had remained from the Christmas night blizzard.

Hoxie approves water rate increase

At its Jan. 8 meeting the Hoxie City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 2013-1, which authorized an increase in water rates for customers connected to the municipal water system. Cost increases were deemed necessary to offset the expense associated with becoming a member of and purchasing water from the Northeast Arkansas Regional Water Authority.

Snow strands 155 Sloan-Hendrix students

More than two inches of snow fell Tuesday in Lawrence County stranding more than 155 students at Sloan-Hendrix School in Imboden.

WR Airport Commission discusses
repairs and increase in airport traffic

New airport commissioners, Neil Vaccari and Gary Kearby, were welcomed to the board by chairman Dan Coker at Monday night's regular meeting. Vaccari and Kearby replace former commissioners Frank Wilson, who's term expired in December, and the late Harry Hicks.

Forehand receives Century Farm honor

Relton Forehand is the first Lawrence County recipient of an Arkansas Century Farm designation under a new Arkansas Agriculture Department program. The program recognizes and honors families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years.

Marshall is new district
court judge for LawCo.

Jason E. Marshall has begun his duties as Lawrence County's new District Court judge. He replaces Judge Larry Hayes, who resigned effective on Dec. 31.
