Walnut Ridge splits

The Rector Cougars defeated Walnut Ridge 57-44 in senior boys basketball on Friday night at Sharum Gymnasium.
Rector led 16-13 after a quarter and pushed the lead to 28-18 at the end of the first half. Walnut Ridge fought back to tie the contest 38-38 early in the fourth period, but a late run by the Cougars sealed the victory.
Zach Crisler scored 19 points, and Range Weeks added 14 for the Bobcats.
The Walnut Ridge junior high boys improved to 8-2 on the season with a 52-34 win over Rector.
The junior Cats led 17-10 after one quarter, 27-22 at halftime and 41-28 after three periods.
Spencer Wilson led Walnut Ridge with 19 points, and Martin Crisler chipped in 17. Luke Wall had seven points.
Walnut Ridge's Lady Bobcats hosted Newport on Thursday and fell to the Lady Greyhounds 64-50.
Newport led 11-7 after the opening period, 29-22 at halftime and 49-39 after three quarters.
Allyson McQuay led Walnut Ridge with 15 points. The Lady Bobcats dropped to 5-6 on the season.
