Watson leads Mustangs to win
Staff Writer Hoxie's Colton Watson scored 30 points to lead the Mustangs to a 69-48 victory over the Harrisburg Hornets in senior boys basketball action Friday night. Slade Sullens and Noah Adamson each added 10 points for the Mustangs. Hoxie improved to 4-1 in 3A-3 conference play and 6-2 overall. Harrisburg won a junior boys contest 41-36.
A strong fourth quarter lifted Earle's Lady Bulldogs past Hoxie 64-58 in a senior girls game on Thursday. The Lady Mustangs led 19-16 after one period and trailed just 41-39 at halftime. Krista Coffell led Hoxie with 24 points, while Brandy Alls contributed 21 points. Courtney Sears finished with five points and seven rebounds. Kristen Carter had four points and four rebounds. Krista Vankirk and Courtney Rice had two points apiece.
The Lady Mustangs fell behind early and couldn't overcome Corning's Lady Bobcats en route to a 65-49 loss on Dec. 10 at Hoxie. Coffell led Hoxie with 15 points and four steals. Alls had 10 points and five rebounds. Vankirk added nine points. Sears had eight points and six rebounds. Carter scored four points and grabbed three boards, and Amber Hayes hit a shot from behind the arc to finish with three points. In junior girls action, Corning topped the Lady Mustangs 42-33. Bekka Kopp led Hoxie with 12 points and eight rebounds. Devyn Pollard scored 10 points. Kelsey Ward had four points. Brooke Willfond, Angel Morris and Katelyn Fitzgerald scored two points each. Morris finished with seven rebounds, and Fitzgerald grabbed four rebounds. Sequoia Irvin had one point and five rebounds.
