Local tourism efforts
selected as a finalist
Tourism efforts in Downtown Walnut Ridge are being recognized and have been chosen as a finalist to receive "The Bootstrap Award" in the 2013 Henry Awards.
The ceremony will take place at the 39th annual Governor's Conference on Tourism during the Governor's Banquet on March 5 in Hot Springs.
The Henry Awards honor Henri de Tonti, the man historians consider to be among the first "Arkansas Travelers."
Governor Mike Beebe has been invited to address the tourism industry. Miss Arkansas Sloane Roberts will present awards to the recipients and Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism Executive Director Richard W. Davies will preside at the ceremony.
Downtown Walnut Ridge and the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce is one of three finalists competing to win "The Bootstrap Award," presented annually to an individual, organization or community that has achieved significant success "on a shoestring," having limited means to work with either in resources or finances.
Lawrence County is up against the City of Siloam Springs and the Sugarloaf Foundation in Lead Hill for the award.
