"Visions of Sugarplums" was the theme of the 2012 Walnut Ridge High School Winter Ball held Saturday night at Van Ellis Cafetorium.
The WRHS Student Council hosts the annual event, and Lindy Baker, in her first year as student council faculty sponsor, oversaw the event. Decorations were red and white and featured candy canes, a candy cane lane, snowflakes and clear lights.
The receiving line began at 6:15, and was made up of school administrators, school board members, judges and last year's king and queen, Cole Hicks and Holly Looney, who is also student council president.
The grand march began at 7 p.m. with the presentation of approximately 45 couples. Later in the evening, Baker announced the judges' selection of the queen and king and runners-up. Serving as judges were two former WRHS teachers, Ricky Miller and Dale Case, and as well as Dale's wife, Michell.
Caroline Kelley and Hunter Flippo were named queen and king. She is the daughter of Terry and Sloane Kelley, and he is the son of Charles and Dana Flippo.
First runners-up were Tristan Simpson and Darren Tribble. She is the granddaughter of Bob and Mary Ann Cole and the daughter of Melissa Cole and Phil Simpson. Darren is the son of Jennifer and Adam Jean and David Tribble.
Second runners-up were Sunnie Cunningham and Payton Poole. She is the daughter of Jeremy and Stormy Cunningham, and he is the son of Blair and Jerry Ballard and Lance and Lisa Poole.
Third runners-up were Courtney Cox and Rowdy Ditto. She is the daughter of Blake and Rhonda Cox, and he is the son of Leslie Daniels and Terry Ditto.
"Thank you to all those involved in the organization and decorating of Winter Ball, in helping to make it a tremendous success," Baker said.
