Hillcrest splits games with ICC

The Hillcrest basketball teams traveled to Brockwell to face 2A-North Conference foe Izard County Consolidated on Nov. 20. Zach Doyle and Colman Evans combined for 56 points to lead Hillcrest's senior boys to a 70-68 overtime win over the Cougars. ICC led 18-13 after the first quarter, 28-26 at halftime and stretched the lead to eight, 44-36, after three quarters. Hillcrest rallied in the fourth quarter to send the contest into overtime tied at 57-57, and outscored the Cougars 13-11 in the final period. Evans and Jeremiah Turner each had nine rebounds for the Screamin' Eagles, and Doyle grabbed eight boards. Evans also had seven assists. Hillcrest improved to 4-1 in conference play and 10-1 overall.
The ICC Lady Cougars defeated Hillcrest 49-38. ICC led 17-8 after one quarter, 26-14 at halftime and 41-22 at the end of the third quarter. Natalie Glenn led Hillcrest with 10 points. The loss dropped the Lady Screamin' Eagles to 2-3 in the conference and 7-5 overall. The ICC junior girls defeated Hillcrest 40-8.
The Screamin' Eagles hosted Ridgefield Christian in non-conference action on Nov. 19. Hillcrest's senior boys edged Ridgefield 68-64. Evans scored 25 points, and Doyle added 24. Turner finished with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Lindsey Crews scored 17 points in leading the Lady Eagles to a 52-44 victory over the Ridgefield girls. Hillcrest led 16-13 after one period, 26-24 at halftime and 41-29 at the end of the third quarter. Stacy Maxwell added nine points for Hillcrest. The Hillcrest junior girls defeated Ridgefield 41-6.
