DECORATE ANGEL TREE - Second graders C.J. Baker (left) of Walnut Ridge Elementary School and Cara Forrester of Hoxie Elementary School hang their ornaments on the Lawrence County Angel Tree on Tuesday. The tree will also display angels representing local children, which individuals can pick up to provide a gift for that child this holiday season. Angels will be available through Dec 12 and gifts are due on Dec. 12.

Jeff Taylor won the runoff election for Walnut Ridge alderman, Ward 2, Position 2 on Tuesday.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department is moving forward with preparations for the replacement of the Highway 63 bridge over Black River at Black Rock.

John Andrews is new
director of Rural Services

John Andrews of Walnut Ridge has been appointed as the new director of Rural Services by Gov. Mike Beebe. Andrews will replace Butch Calhoun in the position, effective Jan. 1.
