Hillcrest splits games with
Calico Rock, sweeps Mammoth
The Hillcrest basketball teams opened 2A-North Conference play on the road last week with games at Mammoth Spring and Calico Rock.
Lindsey Crews and Stacy Maxwell combined for 31 points to lead the Lady Screamin' Eagles to a 46-41 win at Calico Rock on Thursday.
The game was tightly contested, with the Lady Pirates leading 11-9 after one quarter, 27-24 at halftime and 31-29 after three quarters. Hillcrest outscored the home team 17-10 in the final period to take the win.
Crews finished with 17 points, while Maxwell added 14.
The Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 in conference play and 4-2 overall.
Calico Rock handed the Hillcrest senior boys their first loss of the season, 56-43.
Hillcrest led 16-10 after one quarter, but the Pirates rallied to tie the contest at 24-24 at halftime. Calico Rock held a 39-31 lead at the end of the third quarter and continued to pull away in the final period.
Colman Evans led the Eagles with 16 points, and Zach Doyle had 10.
The loss left the Eagles at 1-1 in conference play and 5-1 overall.
The Calico Rock junior high boys hit a shot at the buzzer to defeat Hillcrest 28-26. Walker Morgan had 10 points for the junior Eagles.
The Hillcrest senior girls defeated the Lady Bears 58-50 on Oct. 30.
Hillcrest led 26-22 at halftime.
Crews led the Lady Eagles with 17 points.
Four Screamin' Eagles scored in double figures, as the Hillcrest senior boys defeated Mammoth Spring 84-66.
Evans led the way with 18 points, while Doyle tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Brad Nunnally scored 11 points, and Jeremiah Turner added 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Dylan Nunnally scored 22 points to lead the Hillcrest junior boys to a 51-35 victory.
