Bobcats defeat Cedar Ridge, 35-8
Nathan Hibbard Walnut Ridge's Cole Hicks ran for 251 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bobcats to a 35-8 victory over Cedar Ridge on Thursday at Newark. Walnut Ridge finished in third place in the 2A-3 conference with a 5-2 league mark and were 7-2 overall. The Bobcats will travel to Rison for a first-round game in the state playoffs on Friday. The Bobcats opened the scoring on Eric Wilcoxson's four-yard run with 8:36 to play in the first quarter. Cason McQuay kicked the extra point to put Walnut Ridge ahead 7-0. Hicks scored his first touchdown of the evening on a 12-yard run later in the period, and added a 79-yard burst in the second quarter, as the Bobcats took a 20-0 lead into halftime. Hicks broke loose for a 56-yard touchdown on the first play of the second half. Rowdy Ditto rushed for the two-point conversion to give Walnut Ridge a 28-0 lead. Tyler Clement scored on a five-yard run with 8:37 to play in the third quarter, and Jesse Webb kicked the PAT for the Bobcats' final point. The Timberwolves avoided a shutout by scoring a touchdown on the final play of the game and adding a two-point conversion. Tyler Andrews played quarterback for Walnut Ridge in place of the injured Zach Crisler and completed all three of his pass attempts for 48 yards. Hunter Flippo caught all three of Andrews' passes. Crisler is expected to return to the lineup against Rison. Ditto led the Bocbcats' defense with nine tackles. Andrews and Levi Lewis each had a fumble recovery, and Darren Tribble had an interception. Kickoff at Rison is scheduled for 7 p.m.
