Voter turnout was high in Lawrence County, according to County Clerk Tina Stowers, as 66.61 percent of registered voters cast ballots.

"We usually vote about 40 percent," Stowers said. "So, we were definitely up this election."

In addition, early voting saw a dramatic increase from the last presidential election. In 2008, Lawrence County had 1,151 vote early, compared to 1,918 in this year's election.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson was re-elected. He ran as a Democrat and defeated Independent challenger Ezra Pierce, 4,284-1,188 in the only countywide race.
