Cats defeat Augusta, 52-16
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats made short work of Augusta's Red Devils Friday night at Sexton Field. The Bobcats scored all of their points in the first half of a 52-16 rout over their 2A-3 foes.
Zach Crisler got things started for Walnut Ridge, passing 30 yards to Hunter Flippo with 9:13 to play in the first quarter. Cason McQuay added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
Crisler scored on a three-yard run later in the period, and Eric Wilcoxson ran for a 13-yard score to push the Cats' lead to 20-0 with 4:56 remaining in the quarter.
Augusta returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and added the two-point conversion to cut the gap to 20-8.
Cole Hicks scored on a three-yard run with 29 seconds to play in the opening quarter to extend Walnut Ridge's lead to 26-8.
The Bobcats continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter, as Crisler scored from 19 yards out with 8:41 to play in the half. Tyler Clement added a 10-yard touchdown run with 6:58 remaining.
Crisler threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Vaughn with 5:26 to play. Tyler Andrews raced 28 yards for the Bobcats' final touchdown of the evening, as Walnut Ridge went to the locker room with a 52-8 lead.
Augusta added a touchdown and conversion for the only points of the second half.
Crisler finished with nine completions on 14 attempts, for 183 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Bobcats in rushing, with 63 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.
Wilcoxson ran for 59 yards and a touchdown on three carries.
Flippo caught three passes for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Tyler Binkley led Walnut Ridge's defense, with five tackles, five sacks and two tackles on special teams.
Walnut Ridge is now 4-2 in 2A-3 conference play and 6-2 overall. The Bobcats wrap up regular-season play when they face Cedar Ridge at Newark on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
