Hoxie beats Bay
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs picked up a pair of victories in 3A-Northeast Conference play last week.
Hoxie dropped the first game to Bay on Thursday 25-27, but stormed back to win three consecutive games 25-14, 25-13 and 25-20.
Sarah Manis went 20-of-21 from the service, line with an ace. She also had 26 assists, six digs and a kill. Courtney Sears had three assists, nine digs, a block and nine kills. Krista Coffell had 10 kills, while Maria Fry chipped in nine digs. Maddison Woodard had two digs, three blocks and 15 kills. Emily Hatfield had eight digs, and Zoe Willfond had eight assists
The Hoxie junior high team dominated Bay for a 25-10, 25-11 sweep.
Sequoia Irvin was eight-of-nine from the line, and also had an assist, a dig and two kills. Danielle Maronde had a dig and two kills and was 17-of-17 from the line, with an ace. Krista VanKirk was 7-of-8 from the line with an ace, five assists and two kills. Kelsey Moody had two assists, and three kills, and Katelyn Jamison had a kill. Brooke Willfond and Cheyenne Hatfield each had a kill.
The Lady Mustangs dropped a hard-fought five-game match to the Harrisburg Lady Hornets on Aug. 27 at Harrsiburg.
Harrisburg won the opening game 25-18 and the third game by the same score. Hoxie evened the match with 25-15 win in game 2, then forced a fifth game with 25-21 victory in the fourth game. The Lady Hornets took the deciding fifth game 15-9.
Manis was eight-of-eight from the line, with an ace, and had 15 assists, two digs and two kills. Woodard was eight-of-nine from the line with two aces, three digs, a block and eight kills. Coffell had a block and five kills. Sears went 10-of-10 from the line with two aces, and had eight digs, two blocks and nine kills. Fry had five aces, nine digs and two kills. Hall had two assists, two blocks and seven kills. Emily Hatfield had seven digs, and Zoe Willfond had 11 assists.
In junior high action, Hoxie won a thrilling first game 26-24 and completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the second game.
Irvin was six-of-six from the line with an ace, and had a dig and six kills. Maronde was six-of-six from the line. Krista VanKirk was seven-of-seven from the line, with an ace and had nine assists and four kills. Jamison had an ace and four kills. Kelsey Moody had six assists. Brooke Wilfond was six-of-six from the line with two aces, three digs and two kills.
