WR sweeps Bay
Walnut Ridge opened the senior high volleyball season with a three-game sweep of 3A-Northeast Conference foe Bay on Aug. 21 at Sharum Gymnasium. Scores of the games were 25-9, 25-23, 25-16.
Sabrina Knight led the Lady Bobcats with 12 assists. Caroline Kelley recorded 11 kills, while Anna Bland added six kills. Hannah Massey had for digs, and Ashlyn Cothern added three aces.
The Walnut Ridge junior high team defeated Bay 25-16, 26-24.
The Lady Cats traveled to Harrisburg on Thursday and suffered a hard-fought loss to the Lady Hornets in five games.
Walnut Ridge dropped the first set 18-25 before coming back to tie the match with a 25-23 victory in the second set. Harrisburg took the third set 25-21, but the Lady Bobcats won the fourth set 25-22 to send the match to a decisive fifth set. Harrisburg outlasted the Walnut Ridge 15-10 final set to take the match.
Massey was 20-of-20 from the service line and also had 30 digs. Kelley was 10-of-10 serving and had 15 kills. Cothern contributed 14 assists, and Bland had seven kills.
Walnut Ridge's junior high volleyball team opened its season with two-game sweep of Annie Camp on Aug. 20 at Sharum Gymnasium. Scores of the two games were 25-16, 26-24.
Walnut Ridge won a junior B game 25-21, while Annie Camp took a pair of seventh-grade games 22-11 and 18-14.
