Lady Mustangs have
great opening week
The Hoxie High School volleyball teams enjoyed a successful opening week of the 2012 season, as the junior and senior high teams each were victorious in three matches.
The senior Lady Mustangs began the season with a three-game sweep of Newport's Lady Greyhounds on Aug. 20 at Hicks Gymnasium. Scores of the games were 25-19, 25-18, 25-20.
Sarah Manis had 17 assists and a dig. Courtney Sears was 14-of-14 from the service line with aces and also had seven kills at the net. Krista Coffell had nine kills and a dig. Maddi Woodard had an assist and six kills. Maria Fry had three kills and a dig. Grace Hall had a block and three kills, and Zoe Willfond had four assists.
Hoxie won the junior high match 25-11, 25-12.
Sequoia Irvin was nine-of-10 from the line and had four kills. Danielle Maronde went 12-of-12 from the line with a kill, and Brooke Willfond had a kill. Krista VanKirk was 11-of-11 from the line with an ace, and had seven assists and a kill. Katelyn Jamison had four kills, and Kelsey Moody had two assists.
The Lady Mustangs traveled to Cave City on Aug. 21 and defeated the Cavewomen 25-10, 25-6, 25-8 in senior high action.
Manis was 12-of-12 from the line with four aces, and also had 12 assists, a dig and two kills. Sears had a block and two kills, while Coffell had four kills. Woodard had a dig and four kills, and Maria Fry had four kills. Hall had three blocks and six kills. Emily Hatifeld had an assist and two digs. Zoe Willfond had three aces and seven assists.
The junior Lady Mustangs defeated Cave City 25-9, 25-14.
Maronde was 11-of-11 from the service line with an ace and had two digs and three kills. VanKirk had five assists and a kill. Jamison had two kills, and Irvin had a kill. Moody had three assists and two kills. Brooke Willfond was 10-of-10 from the line with an ace and had two kills.
The Lady Mustangs hosted Cedar Ridge on Thursday.

Manis had eight assists and six kills. Woodard was 15-of-16 from the line with six aces and seven kills. Sears had two aces, a dig, two blocks and two kills. Coffell had two assists, a block and three kills. Hall was 10-of-12 serving, with four aces, and had a block and four kills. Zoe Willfond had 11 assists and was 10-of-10 from the line with two aces. Fry had an assist and two kills.
Hoxie's juniors defeated Cedar Ridge 25-15, 25-12.
VanKirk was 12-of-12 from the line with four aces and had seven assists and three kills. Irvin was six-of-six serving, with four aces, and also had an assist and two kills.
