Water was the main topic of discussion during the Aug. 14 meeting of the Hoxie City Council.

WR City Council approves
Hwy. 67 extension study

Representatives from the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and Andrew Coker, who served as Mayor for the Day, were guests at the Walnut Ridge City Council meeting on Aug. 14, and the council passed resolutions dealing with city property and the extension of Highway 67 north from Walnut Ridge to the Missouri state line. They also set the date for this year's Christmas parade.

Enrollment figures
down in Lawrence Co.

First-day school enrollment in Lawrence County schools was slightly less this year with 3,068 students compared to last year's total of 3,140 students.

Municipal races set

The filing period for those seeking election to municipal offices closed on Friday with several races emerging for alderman positions.
