Hoxie hosts seven-on-seven

Mustang Slade Sullens looks back for a pass during a seven-on-seven tournament hosted by Hoxie School on Saturday.

The Hoxie Mustang football program hosted a seven-on-seven tournament on Saturday with two pools of play featuring teams from throughout Northeast Arkansas.

Hoxie head coach Tom Sears said the tournament fulfilled his goals for the teams attending and for his own players.

"We're really pleased with the competitiveness of the tournament," he said.

Melbourne beat Cave City 32-14 for the championship in Pool A, and Forrest City defeated Greene County Tech 14-7 for the Pool B championship.

Sears said Hoxie is fielding a young team this year, and the day provided a good learning experience for them.

"I thought we got better throughout the day," he said of the two Hoxie teams that played during the day. "I thought both teams got a lot better as the day went on. That was exactly what we wanted to get out of it."

Other schools participating in the tournament were Jonesboro, Brookland, Corning, Valley View, Wynne and Marion.
